When Sam woke, it was in a bed that wasn't his own and without his dad or brother in sight... needless to say, there was a lot of freaking out. He fumbled out of bed and went looking through the apartment he was in... only to find a dog and not much else. Nothing that would tell him where he was anyway or where Dad or Dean was, when they'd be back.
He even got desperate enough to grab the phone and try their numbers... only to find them no longer in use which was just... even weirder. Now he was even more worried.

He was tall even sitting, yeah. All long limbs and... really grown up. He wasn't a runt anymore, was he? And in the photo, they really- did look happy. "That's so cool."

He smiled. "Don't get excited, dude. You've got a few years yet before you hit that last growth spurt."

He fell back into step, staying close to Dean and just... looking around, thinking. "Wonder how long I'll be here?"
Part of him kind of didn't want to leave, not when things were nice and there weren't any monsters... even if he knew that wouldn't work.

When they reached downtown, the street opened up wider and was closed to automobile traffic. Shops lined each side, with horse-drawn carriages wandering through at regular intervals to offer rides and tours.

When they reached downtown, Sam looked around, a little more excitement coming back to his expression. His eyes darted between shops and the carriages. It was nice to get to enjoy some sights without knowing you're just around for some hunt.

Dean wasn't going to tell him how much they'd both enjoyed that curse. He could always tease Sam about being a girl, though. Sam this age would expect it. He guided his brother down the street, pointing out the various touristy spots and shops. They could take a peek into one of his two favorite candy shops while they were there.

That probably added fuel to all those girly jokes Dean made and that just... sucked.
But at least the sights were pretty neat and Sam listened intently to whatever Dean told him about, looked into shop windows as they passed them. And candy definitely sounded good.

Dean let him wander into the shops he wanted to see and they made a stop in the candy store to pick up a few things. When they stepped out, he looked over at his brother. "You wanna grab one of the carriages or head over to the river now?"

Today was great, really. Better than he thought when he woke up in some strange room without Dean or Dad close by at all. He got to actually look around and when Dean wasn't being a jerk or chasing girls, he was always cool to hang out with.

On the riverfront, they wandered down even more stores and kiosks of tourist junk and restaurants. There was also a second candy store (the one Sam refused to work at!), which they had to stop in, too.

He never pictured himself settling down in Savannah, Georgia of all places, but Sam had to admit... it really seemed nice here, like they had made a real home really.

When they were done shopping in the candy store, Dean led Sam back out onto the sidewalk, heading toward his bar and the paddle boats. Watching his brother soak up all the sights and look so happy gave him a little pang, though. It made him wish he'd settled down for Sam a lot sooner. He remembered how unhappy his little brother was at this age, but at the time, he hadn't been grown up enough himself to understand it. Now, he wished he'd done things differently. A lot differently.

He let out a soft sigh, straying a bit closer to Dean, looking down at Ozzy, who was still walking just a little ahead of him. "We've done a lot of walking today, you know." He looked up. "Think we should sit down somewhere for a bit and let Ozzy take a break?"
no subject
He could probably take Sam to the restaurant without too much worry. Sam wasn't as known for visiting him and making public gestures of affection like Dean was at the bookstore.
no subject
Seeing where Dean worked, at least, sounded nice even if he couldn't go into the bookstore... which didn't make sense, really. No one would recognize him like this, but he'd save any questioning for later.

He brought the drinks and a menu back to the table, in case Sam decided he was hungry. Handed the menu and the soda to Sam, then sat down to pour out some water for Ozzy into a shallow pan borrowed from the bar.
no subject
Really cool looking at least. He took a sip of the soda and watched Ozzy drink his water for a few moments, just looking around.
no subject
He liked the view of the river, too. It was cool to watch the boats and cargo ships sailing by.

"What else is good here? That isn't a burger?"

Besides, they still had candy to munch on later.

"Anything you wanna do after this?"

Sam wasn't stupid, but he wasn't really at the age where he was thinking about Dean as anything but his big brother and it really didn't occur to him to consider the option, even if he was noticing a lot of weird things.
He just couldn't quite wrap his mind around them, that's all. The single bedroom (from what he'd seen anyway), the way that Dean wanted to avoid the bookstore Sam worked at...
Either way, right now? He just wanted to enjoy whatever this was. The peace and quiet, Dean right there with him. "Something with Bruce Lee in it."
