It took a few days to convince the hospital to release Dana... and Sam was half-convinced they just did it because she was being a pain in the ass. He couldn't blame them since she never took to being sick or injured well. They hit the road almost immediately after getting the prescriptions filled for some pain meds. He hated that Dana would basically have to suffer through the car drive until they were far enough away and safe to stop for awhile.
They pushed on and made it to some small little town though, far away from Palo Alto, Stanford, and hopefully any demons trailing them. Man, he did not miss the nasty, likely roach infested motels they used to stay in and like the one he was pulling into park at now.
Now they had to decide just... what they'd do for sleeping arrangements, he supposed. Jo had been pretty adament about not sharing a room, but it was safer if they did.

He shakes his head. "No, just- relaxed." Yeah. He definitely didn't want to fall asleep.

Reaching out absently, her fingers brush back through his hair lightly, moving it out of his face. "Ya sure? You look a little outta it Sammy."
no subject
Right now, it was just nice to have everything off his mind, numbed by the haze of alcohol. "Don't wanna sleep."
no subject
She knew it was the alcohol, otherwise he'd be brooding on the other side of the room right now or on his computer or...or anything else other than laying in bed with her right now.
Her eyebrow raises a fraction at that, fingers still working through his hair lazily. "What? Wanna watch tv or somethin'? 'Cause when these pain meds kick in again I may be liable to passing out."
no subject
He nudged back against her fingers.

Eyes meeting his own, she gave a small amused smile. "Ya sure about that? Gonna start waggin' your tail soon for me Sammy?"
no subject
But this... this was nice. Really nice, actually.

Too bad it was due mostly to the fact that Sam was wasted at the moment.
no subject
"This sucks, you know?" He finally murmured, just above a whisper. Bad thing about being wasted? He never had any filter, never thought about what he shouldn't say or put out on the table. "Everything does... and I miss this, miss you, but..."

There was a moment of quiet after their teasing, then he spoke and her body tensed the slightest. "But...you're angry at me."
no subject
"I don't really think it's safe either, not if I got demons after me. Sounds like I'm bad luck."
no subject
At the last part, her brows furrowed, confusion washing over her. "You don't think what's safe? No matter what our situation could be, you know, regarding our relationship, I would still stick with you. That's just unavoidable Sam."
no subject
"I don't know... everything's so messed up. Should've known it wouldn't last."
no subject
Even though she was a bit upset by his words, him moving in ever closer to her soothed her some and she wrapped her arms about him.
"Whatever lasts...is up to you you know."
no subject
"All I got's you, you know..."
no subject
Frowning the slightest, she pulled her face back a fraction to study him. "So you pick me 'cause you have no other choice."
no subject
His expression was pinched at that, a little confused. "I didn't say that." He shrugged. "You're all I've ever had, you know? Only constant in my life really... and I can't lose that too. It's all I'm saying."
no subject
Thinking over his words, she shifted her hand, smoothing her thumb over his brows to ease away that expression on his face. They were...really dependent on each other, she realized. Not just him or just her, but both of them. They needed each other, and hell, she'd die for him. She was sure he'd said at some point he would do the same for her. The problem with that was, they didn't need one another to die for each other so much as they needed one another to live for each other.
Blinking after a moment of her thinking, she slid her hand back down, resting it at his cheek. "You aren't gonna lose me." She murmurs, and unable to help herself, she leans her face close, brushing her mouth against his, softly. "So stop worryin' about it."

She was the only one who'd kept him half-way sane living with Dad, the only one there for him.
he tipped up at that kiss, eyes drifting shut at the contact. "Okay..." He wanted to believe that.
Even with all the insecurities that had popped up, all the little worries gnawing at him.
He returned the kiss lightly before shifting just that much closer to her, finally letting his eyes drift shut.
